Liv Hospitality Commits to Renewable Ready Program With BHE

Liv Hospitality has made a commitment to use 50% renewable energy at several of its hotels by the year 2020, depending on the approval of a proposed Black Hills Energy wind facility. According to the Black Hills Pioneer, these properties include the Tin Lizzie Gaming Resort, Hampton by Hilton, Cadillac Jack’s Gaming Resort, DoubleTree by Hilton, Tru by Hilton, and the SpringHill Suites by Marriott in Deadwood and the Historic Hotel Alex Johnson Hotel in Rapid City.

Black Hills Energy’s Renewable Ready program would offer Black Hills businesses, including Liv Hospitality, cost-effective options to purchase renewable energy resources from Black Hills Energy. Liv Hospitality is currently contracted to subscribe for 15 years and will commit to using a 20-megawatt share or renewable energy, pending the program’s approval by the South Dakota Public Utilities Commission and the Wyoming Public Service Commission.

Black Hills Energy has approached all of its qualifying business customers to participate in the program, which will be served by the proposed $57 million, 40-megawatt wind energy facility near Cheyenne, Wyoming. If approved, the project would be in service in the fall of 2020.

Hearings have yet to be scheduled for approval of the program, but Black Hills Energy hopes to have an answer by mid to late summer.
