Historic SD Properties Join National Register

Eight South Dakota properties were recently added to the National Register of Historic Places, reports the Rapid City Journal. These include five in the West River region according to the South Dakota State Historical Society.

The newly added properties include the Chambers Dugout and Roosevelt School in Belle Fourche,  the Jackson Boulevard Historic District in Spearfish, the Solomon and Martha Hann Homestead near Nemo, the Haakon County Courthouse in Philip, the Perkins Congregational Church near Springfield, the Dickens Round Barn in the Worthing vicinity and the First Presbyterian Church of Groton.

These properties have been added to the National Register of Historic Places, the official federal list of properties identified as important in American history, architecture, archaeology, engineering, and culture. The State Historic Preservation Office of the South Dakota State Historical Society coordinates with the National Park Service, which oversees the National Register program, to list the properties.
