Fort Meade and Hot Springs VA Go Tobacco Free

As of May 29th, 2019, the Veterans Affairs (VA) Black Hills Health Care System campuses at Fort Meade and in Hot Springs are officially tobacco free. According to KOTA Territory News, this new policy applies to veterans, vendors, families, and visitors, with enforcement with staff to follow in the near future.

The goal of this policy is to encourage a healthy lifestyle and to help others quit tobacco. Both campuses offer services to help stop tobacco use and staff plan to use the new policy to help spread information on those services to patients.

If you are a veteran who is trying to quit tobacco, there are several resources you can use, including:

-Veterans Health Library

- VA Tobacco Quitline 1-855-QUIT-VET (1-855-784-8838)

This policy change does not affect any ceremonial usage of tobacco.
