The Deadwood City Commission recently created a resolution pertaining to drone operations within city limits, reports the Black Hills Pioneer. Kelly Fuller, the Deadwood Police Chief and Safety Committee Chair noted the importance of the ordinance as the use of drones increases.
Several drones have been launched during highly attended events in Deadwood. Police found that a resolution regarding drone use was paramount, as cameras and small weapons can be added to drones.
The new resolution limits drone operations within city limits, and outlaws flying drones over anyone not in operation of the drone without their consent. The measure also restricts operation of a drone by a person less than 13 years of age who is not accompanied by the parent. Violating the ordinance is a Class 2 misdemeanor, punishable with $120-500 fines, 30 days in jail, or both. Violations by minors are considered petty offenses.
