South Dakota Recognizes Elder Awareness Day

Governor Daugaard proclaimed June 15 Elder Abuse Awareness Day reports the Butte County Post.  Governor Daugaard issued a press release stating that approximately 5 million older persons are abused, neglected or exploited each year.  It is estimated that $2.6 billion each year is lost by elders in financial abuse.  Elder Abuse Awareness Day was started in 2006 by the International Network for Prevention of Elder Abuse.

The South Dakota Attorney General’s office offers help those older persons seeking information about available programs.
