Hill City School District

Children and youth in Keystone are enrolled in the Hill City School District, which  includes the Hill City Elementary, Middle and High Schools. According to the State of South Dakota’s 2015-2016 report card, the Hill City School District 51-2 had a graduation rate of 100 percent in 2016, which was higher than the previous year’s rate of 94.6 percent and the statewide average of 83.9 percent.

During the 2015-2016 academic year, the Hill City School District 51-2 had a total fall enrolment of 501 students in preschool to twelfth grade. With a 0.5 percent dropout rate, the district graduated 33 students. Twenty-two students took the ACT exams. The average composite score was 23.3. The Hill City School District is governed by a five -member board which usually meets the second Monday of each month at 6:00pm.at the Hill City High School Room 202. The board’s meeting schedule, agendas for meetings, and board minutes are posted on the school district’s website.

Budget

The Hill City Board of Education, as of May 8th 2017, are in the preliminary stages of budgeting for the 2017-2018 academic year. The estimated General Fund has been budgeted for about $5.2 million, the Capital Outlay Fund $1.5 million and the Special Education Fund $1.0 million. Other Educational Opportunities

Boys and Girls Club of The Black Hills

Education and career programs, character and leadership programs as well as sports, fitness, arts and life skills are among the programs that help kids after school, all day in the summer. Membership is open to all youth ages from preschool to age 18. They are located at 297 Walnut Drive in Hill City.

Keystone Community Center and Library

The Keystone Town Library and Community Center is located in City Hall in Keystone. More information about the Keystone Town Library is available on the library’s Facebook page.

Sylvan Rocks Climbing School

The Sylvan Climbing School teach beginning climbers and take experienced climbers to the best summits the Black Hills Region has to offer. They offer six different courses with different location options. The Sylvan Rocks Climbing School offers an in depth description of the various courses available.
